Andrew Sheard Patent Attorney (Retired)

Welcome to Greg’s War!  A particular welcome if you have arrived here looking for my former professional site at at www.andrew-sheard.com — or if you’ve been redirected from one of my other domains.

I have retired from my practice as a patent attorney, so I’m not offering intellectual property advice any more.  But please stay and have a look around.

Greg’s War is a site dedicated to the First World War experiences of my grandfather, 2nd Lt. C. E. Gregory, who was always known as ‘Greg’.  He was a 19 year old pilot in the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Air Force in the closing months of the war in 1918.  The centrepiece of the site is an ‘on-this-day’ blog that recounts what a war pilot’s life was like 100 years ago.

I am basing blog posts primarily on Greg’s pilot’s log book. I’m also quoting from his more detailed active service diary.  He kept this for part (but, sadly, not all) of the time he was at the front.  And I’ve been able to include Squadron Record Book entries in some cases.  Plenty of other resources are here, too.  They include never-before published photographs and background articles.  All of them give context to what life was like for Greg flying above the Western Front in France and Belgium in 1918.
